We don’t normally report on general technical developments in the semiconductor business, displays keep us more than fully occupied. (I mis-typed that as fooly which might be accurate!). However, we spotted that Applied Materials has developed a process to allow cobalt to be used for connects and interconnects on chips, which could help to extend the progress of Moore’s Law for some time as other materials such as copper and tungsten had hit fundamental physical limits in developing FinFET transistors. Although the company said that there is a need for new processes ( and equipment, of course), the development will allow progress beyond 10nm.
