Apple Working on AR/VR V2 – Kuo

What They Say

Patently Apple quoted Ming-Chi Kuo, who has something of a reputation as an analyst on all things Apple (significant enough to have his own category on the website!), has said that Apple is already working on a second version of its (now to be) line of AR/VR headsets. The version is reported to be due in 2H 2024 and is expected to be lighter (with a better battery) and more powerful and with a new id. He has forecast sales of 2.5-3.5 million headsets in 2023 and 8-10 million in 2024. The company is reported to have 1,000 engineers working on the project.

The second generation will be supplied by Luxshare-ICT (the first is said to come from Pegatron).

The report also said that Kuo expects a new iPhone SE with a larger display in 2023 and that Luxshare-ICT will be the supplier.

A second article highlighted the gesture control and object-sensing sensors.

What We Think

Anybody that understands the amount of engineering needed for a really great headset and how long it would take, would not be surprised to hear that Apple has multiple projects at different stages of the process. However, the identification of a possible supplier is interesting.

It’s a while since I used the phrase, but Jon Peddie always used to say “If you use a crystal ball, every now and then, you have to eat glass!” (BR)
