Apple TV with Samsung Sets Gets HDR10+ Support

What They Say

Up to now, the Apple TV box and the Apple TV+ service have not supported the HDR10+ dynamic metadata protocol developed by Samsung. Apple has tended to support Dolby Vision, which Samsung TVs have not supported that system.

We reported that the new Apple TV box added support for HDR10+ (Apple Announces New iPads, AppleTV) but T3 reports that Apple’s Apple TV+ app on Samsung TVs will add support, where the content is available in that format.

This has just reminded me that I really need to get my head around why Google feels a need to develop its Project Caviar for HDR (I can see why it might want to develop it for audio). I’m unclear what technical advantage another HDR system would have over HDR10+ and haven’t found anything in my searches. Given that the information became public after Protocol reported that it had been revealed at a closed event, and leaked to the blog, I doubt I can find much, however.  (BR)
