In looking for some information about Apple’s streaming, we came upon this article that explains the frustrations and problems of actually trying to watch HDR on an Apple TV. The author is something of an expert on the Apple TV, so his frustration shows what a problem the current situation is.
The trigger for this was a press release by Unified Streaming that says it has new releases of software that allow the use of fragmented MP4 as a delivery format for HLS using H.264, AAC and HEVC. The software supports SDR and HDR and allows viewing on on iOS 10, macOS 10.12, tvOS 10 onwards as well as to other compliant devices and SDKs.
