Apple to evaluate BOE’s iPhone 14 OLED panel this week

What They Say

The Elec reported that BOE has passed samples to Apple for evaluation as a supplier for the expected iPhone 14 and hopes to get approval ‘within the month’. If the go ahead is given, production would start in July and August. That is likely to be a couple of weeks behind existing suppliers, LGD and SDC.

BOE got into some trouble with Apple, it was reported, after changing the substrate design for iPhone 13 OLEDs. (BOE Responds to Apple Rumour). The Elec said that BOE’s supply to Apple might be just 5 million units.

What We Think

Apple will, no doubt, want to add a further supplier to bolster competition and its supply sources. (BR)
