At yesterday’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference, the company confirmed that ARKit 2.0 is in the works, bringing improved face tracking, advanced rendering and 3D object detection, as well as support for multiple users.
Apple showed multiplayer AR gaming in motion at the conference, via a slingshot game where players compete on a real-life table, which supports two players and one spectator, all using their own devices. The company has also collaborated with Lego on a four-player AR experience where characters interact with each other in the real world, plus in-game Lego buildings.
The company also revealed USDZ, a new proprietary zip file format for AR objects, allowing users to share them via apps like Mail and Safari, as well as Adobe’s Creative Cloud. Meanwhile, Measure is a new app that allows users to measure objects in AR.
