Early adopters of Apple’s new iPhone 8 Plus have reported an issue involving the smartphone’s battery.
Batteries are apparently swelling, causing the handset to split apart after a short period of use. The first incident reported came out of Taiwan, but similar defects have now also come to light in Japan, China, Canada, Greece and Hong Kong.
Sam Jaffe, from Cairn Energy Research Advisors, wrote on his company blog that to experience issues like this so soon after launch was “troubling”.
Apple is reportedly looking into what have caused the issue, which faintly echoes last year’s battery-related disaster with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 that ended in the device being taken off the market altogether.
