Apple Drops LG Monitor Prices by 25%

Apple and LG have reduced the prices of the new ‘UltraFine’ Thunderbolt monitors that were launched along with the new MacBook Pro.

Apple had come in for quite a lot of criticism because it exclusively uses USB Type-C connectors on the new notebook and that will mean that users will have to buy adaptors and the reduction will also apply to those.

“We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition. We want to help them move to the latest technology and peripherals, as well as accelerate the growth of this new ecosystem,” Apple said. “Through the end of the year, we are reducing prices on all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals we sell, as well as the prices on Apple’s USB-C adapters and cables.”

The 27″ ‘5K’ display costs $974 (from $1299) and the 21.5″ is $524 (from $699) for the period until January.

Analyst Comment

We, of course, wouldn’t possibly infer from these actions that perhaps the ‘attach rate’ of monitors to the new MacBook Pro is not quite as high as Apple and LG hoped. Apple is also reported to have received criticism for the relatively limited (16GB) memory configurations of the new system. (BR)
