AOC Chooses IPS and VA for UHD Monitors

MMD, as AOC, has added two UltraHD monitors to the 77 Series. Both the 27″ U2777PQU and 31.5″ U3277PWQU are flicker-free, with 10-bit colour (real 8-bit + FRC) and 100% sRGB coverage.

Both screens are can tilted (-5° to 24°), swivelled (330°), pivoted (90°) and raised/lowered (180mm). They also support picture-in- and picture-by-picture modes.

Despite the similarities, there is a key difference between the monitors in terms of the panels used. The U2777PQU has an IPS panel and 1,000:1 contrast ratio, while the U3277PWQU features an AMVA panel with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio (and covers 95% NTSC). Both can be used by graphics professionals and other users requiring colour accuracy.

Brightness is 350 cd/m² and response time is 4ms. Both displays have DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D, VGA and USB 3.0 inputs. They will be available in September, for £415 ($540) (27″) and £450 ($585) (31.5″), ex VAT.

Analyst Comment

The 31.5″ monitor looks like particularly good value. So far, most of the products in that segment have been high end niche products. Many, many users would see the productivity benefits and that amount of money could earn rapid payback. (BR)
