Amazon Gives Up Alexa Hands-free Voice Tech to Toshiba for New High-end Fire TV Smart TV Line

What They Say

The Toshiba TV brand in the US has signed up with Amazon to use its Alexa app along with the FireTV. The voice operation can use a remote or not.

Toshiba’s new M550 Series comes in 55-inch ($799.99), 65-inch ($999.99) and 75-inch ($1,199.99) iterations, with high-end 120HZ native panels and 480 motion rates, as well as Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos capabilities.

What We Think

I think this is the first non-Amazon branded set to use Alexa. (Introducing the All-New Fire TV Family—Including the First Ever Amazon-Built TVs) As I have said before, I was very influenced by research work done with users by Ruwido. I have missed the updates from the firm over the last couple of years. (Voice is Great for TV Control…. Sometimes….). Spoiler alert – voice is great when you know what you want, but not so good if you want to browse.

As far as I am aware, Compal is still the licencee of the Toshiba brand in the US. (BR)
