Aledia Sets New Records in MicroLED Technology

Aledia, the French company known for its work in nanowire and silicon-based MicroLED technology, claims to have achieved a new world record in energy efficiency for small-sized MicroLEDs (defined as less than 1.5 micrometers). The company reported an External Quantum Efficiency (EQE) of over 32% and a Wall Plug Efficiency (WPE) of 320 milliwatts per watt. High EQE values indicate that a greater proportion of electrical power is converted into visible light, which enhances energy conservation and extends the battery life of devices.

Aledia says it has made significant strides by reducing MicroLED pixel sizes to 2 micrometers and enhancing RGB directionality. This development means sharper, more vivid images for AR devices, where compactness and clarity are paramount. The enhanced image quality is expected to lead to more immersive and realistic AR experiences. The company has also made notable improvements in color reproduction, claiming 99% coverage of DCI-P3.

At Touch Taiwan 2024, Aledia also debuted several new products, including a 160×160µm 2D LED integrated with a CMOS driver aimed at the high-performance backlit display market, and 3D Nanowire LEDs with significantly reduced MicroLED sizes down to 1 micrometer.
