Customisable smartphones were seen in the Pop 4/4+/4S handsets (5″/5.5″). These are available in a wide range of colours and finishes, such as ‘hairline-brushed’, ‘wood’ and ‘leather’.
The Pop 4 and 4+ feature quad-core processors, 8MP (rear) and 5MP (front) cameras and 1280 x 720 resolution. The 4S has higher specs with an octa-core processor and 13MP/5MP cameras, as well as a range of extra features; these include 0.3-second autofocus; a fingerprint reader; quick charge; and 1920 x 1080 resolution.
Alcatel will launch the 4 and 4+ at the end of May, for €150 and €130. The 4S will be launched at the end of June, for €200.
The entry-level Pixi range also received an update, in the form of the Pixi 4 range. The 4″ will be launched at the end of April, for €60; the 4.5″ (3G and 4G) in June, for €80 and €100, respectively; and the 6″ (3G and 4G) in mid-April and at the end of May, respectively, for €120 and €150.
MWC also served as the launch platform for Alcatel’s first hybrid tablet: the Plus 10, a 4G Windows 10 device. The detachable keyboard, itself a 4G product, can serve as a hotspot for up to 15 devices.
The Plus 10 features 1280 x 800 resolution on its 10″ display, with an IPS panel, and double batteries (with a combined size of 8,410mAh). Multiple ports are featured: USB, micro-USB and micro-HDMI. Alcatel will launch the Plus 10 in June, but did not have a price.
Finally was the Xess, the 17.3″ ‘tablet’ which was shown at IFA (Alcatel Has Rugged Devices). This was launched in China in January, and is set to be introduced to Europe in Q3. Alcatel told us that game developers have shown high levels of interest in the product.
