Two new products were added to the Pixi family, in the form of the Pixi First smartphone and Pixi 3 tablet. Alcatel claims 300 hours of standby time and seven hours of talk time on the phone, which is a 3G unit with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It has a 4″ display, 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras and a 1,450mAh battery.
Available in three different sizes (7″, 8″ and 10″), the Pixi 3 tablet also has three different connectivity options: 3G, 4G or WiFi. The tablet is voice-call-enabled.
Alcatel’s ‘Pop’ range received two new models, in the form of the Pop Star and Pop Up smartphones. The first of these is a customisable model; users can choose from a variety of different covers, including leather, wood-effect or psychedelic colours.
An 8MP camera, with image stabilisation, is built into the rear of the phone, and a 5MP camera on the front. A 5″ IPS panel with ‘HD’ (likely to be 1280 x 720) resolution is used in the display, with 160º viewing angles. Android runs on a quad-core processor. The phone is a 4G model with a 2,000mAh battery.
The Pop Up is a similar model, with the same 5″ display (laminated for anti-reflectivity), but an octa-core CPU. Cameras are both better (13MP rear) and worse (2MP front) than the Pop Star. The phone has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
Alcatel introduced the Idol 3 smartphone at MWC this year (Alcatel One Touch Has Lots to Show), and expanded the range with the Idol 3C at IFA. Like the original Idol 3, the 3C is completely reversible – much like a tablet, turning the phone so that the bottom is on top will cause the UI to flip.
While the Idol 3 is available in 4.7″ and 5.5″ sizes, the 3C is 5.5″-only, with 1920 x 1080 resolution and an IPS panel. Technicolor’s Color Enhance software is built in, as it is on the original Idol 3, to boost colour and contrast.
The phone features dual 1.2W speakers and an octa-core processor (Android 5.0). The battery is a 2,910mAh device.
Alcatel’s largest device was either a big tablet or a small AIO PC – even the company wasn’t sure how to refer to it! As Alcatel is a mobile device maker, though, we’ll call it a tablet.
Known as ‘Xess’, the product is a 17.3″ slate, which (we were told) is a reaction to a product hadn’t even been announced at the time of writing! As we write this, Apple’s event looms large on 9th September, where the company is expected to reveal a 12.9″ iPad – Alcatel hopes to break the market first, though.
The Xess has 1920 x 1080 resolution, an IPS panel, 10-point touch and a 64-bit 1.5GHz processor, running Android 5.1. RAM is 2GB, with 32GB of storage, and it features a 10,000mAh battery – enough, said Alcatel, for three hours of video playback at Full HD resolution.
