Aixtron SE has acquired Silicon Valley-based PlasmaSi, a company which specialises in OLED encapsulation, for approximately $16 million in cash.
PlasmaSi’s technology is designed and targeted at display products including mobile phones, hand-held devices, tablets, wearables and large screen HDTVs, though the company says it can also be used to manufacture large areas OLED lighting products and to address future opportunities in encapsulation markets. Aixtron will integrate PlasmaSi’s thin-film encapsulation process into its existing OLED cluster for customer demonstration purposes.
