China’s Aiptek is a company focused on mobile projection. It was showing a modular projector concept called the iBeam Block, which will be released in March for £550 ($785). This consists of three modules: the LED projector (L400), a Windows 10-based touch PC (APP Unit) and a power bank.
The three modules slot together (using magnets and pogo pins) for use as a full-featured mobile projector, or can be used with only one (projector) or two (L400/APP or L400/power bank). When all three are used, the projector 55mm tall. It can throw a 20″ – 120″ image from 0.50m – 3.2m, taking content from the APP or an HDMI source.
Aiptek’s APP Unit is an Android/Windows dual OS tablet, running on a quad-core Intel processor. It has a 4.5″ touch display (IPS panel), 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Internet connection, via WiFi, is supported and content can be mirrored onto the projector. Alternatively, a microSD card can be used.
When used with the power bank, the iBeam Block enjoys the use of a 12,000mAh battery. This will power up to two hours of operation.
Also on the stand was a new infrared module, which can be used to add touch to any projection surface (DG-VTa), and the existing A100W, i60 and i70 small projectors.
