Actions Semiconductor Develops 360° Chips

Chinese fabless semiconductor company Actions Semiconductor has released two new 28nm chipsets for VR, through its subsidiary Actions Technology.

The S900VR is designed as an all-in-one solution for 360° panoramic VR devices. It has a 64-bit architecture and uses a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 processor, with an Imagination PowerVR G6230 GPU. UltraHD resolution is supported, as well as ‘high’ refresh rates, low persistence and sub-20ms latency. The chip supports up to 2560 x 1600 60fps LCD display, or UltraHD at 30fps using HEVC.

Actions’ step-down chip is the V700. It is an all-in-one VR solution for mid-range 360° devices. It uses a Mali 450 GPU, supporting up to 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60fps and UltraHD at 30fps via HEVC.
