What They Say
We published a release from Swave, a spin-out from Imec in Belgium, that highlighted a fund raising round earlier this year (Swave, a New Imec and VUB Spin-off, Raises €7M to Deliver Truly Realistic AR/VR Experiences to Applications Like the Metaverse). Now Insight Media’s Chris Chinnock has interviewed the company to get a bit more information about the firm’s development which is said to be able to make
‘0.2-micron pixels which is 10x smaller than what can be done today with the potential to get to 100X smaller’.
This could be used to enable larger (2cm x 2cm) chip-based imagers for ultra high end holographic displays or small versions (0.5cm x 0.5cm) for ultra-lightweight wearable devices. The firm has started to engage with potential customers.
What We Think
Chris has gone through the technology in his article. The firm has recently appointed a new CEO, Mike Toonen, to take over for the next stage of development from founder and chief product officer, Theodore Marescaux. The technology looks intriguing. (BR)
