Global LED Display Shipments Up Almost 18% In Q2 2022: Omdia

What They Say

Hat-tip to Sixteen-Nine.net’s Dave Haynes who spotted data from Omdia’s latest data for the LED video display category, which grew 17.7% year on year although China was up just 4.7%. There has been some easing in factors that were causing trouble such as lockdowns and supply chain delays.

There is an increase in demand for projects that have been delayed for two years, especially outdoor displays in retail and outdoor sports applications. Brands including Daktronics, Lighthouse, Watchfire, and Sansi North America (SNA) Displays helped support and sustain shipments in 2Q22, especially in North America and Western Europe.

In 2Q22, China took the largest share of shipments, followed by North America and Western Europe with 13.6% and 11.0%, respectively. But Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & Africa, and Asia & Oceania grew comparatively fast, up by 104.8%, 49.2%, and 44.0% YoY, respectively.

Absen, Samsung, Unilumin and LG were all big winners on a quarterly and year on year basis. (see table)

What We Think

I was slightly surprised not to see any of the top five brands at IBC yesterday, with Absen the only one that I spotted. The very big growth for these top brands, which are now taking 68.4% of the market must mean a very poor period for the smaller brands in the market. It’s possible to work backwards from the data given to see the impact on ‘others, and by my calculations, they will be 38% down, year on year. That’s a very big loss when the big brands have done so well. I have reached out to Omdia to try to get clarification. (BR)
