Samsung, LG eye niche sectors to boost tablet sales

Because of the slowdown in the global market for tablets since the pandemic, the KED reports that both Samsung and LG are planning to expand more into niche tablet categories. The firm quotes Canalys data that the market in Q2 was down 11% to 34.8 million units. LG launched the new LG Ultra Tab in August in Korea, its first new tablets for three years and said to be aimed at the Korean distance learning market.

Samsung has developed the new Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro rugged tablet. (Introducing the Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro: A Ruggedized Device Designed for the New Mobile Workforce) As well as commercial users, the tablet will be aimed at travellers and extreme sports players. The firm is reported to have enjoyed good success with its Galaxy XCover5 rugged smartphone.

What We Think

Most tablets perform their key functions of media consumption very well, so it takes a long time for them to need replacing. (BR)
