Dolby Vision Precision Detail Now on LG Sets

What They Say

LG’s 2022 OLED and miniLED TVs that use the Alpha 9 Gen 5 silicon processor have been upgraded to add support for ‘Dolby Vision Precision Detail’. This is a switchable feature that works in combination with the Dolby Vision IQ technology which exploits ambient light sensors to optimise performance.

The feature is expected to come to sets equipped with Mediatek processors later. (I just spotted it is mentioned in Mediatek’s announcement here MediaTek Launches Pentonic 700 Chipset for Premium 120Hz 4K Smart TVs)

What We Think

I found a video on YouTube from Gaming Tech that shows a side by side image where the effect is considered to be ‘very minor’ and appears to slightly lift brightness and contrast. It doesn’t work with Dolby Gaming, it seems. Users commenting on the video see, perhaps, a slightly bigger change, but it will depend on the ambient conditions used in the test, of course.

We are getting to a point where these features almost have to be subtle because the best TVs are so good. (BR)
