What They Say
Rohde & Schwarz collaborated with Danish broadcasters DR & TV2 to demonstrate live 5G Broadcast of the Tour de France when it spent its first three days in Denmark. The content was viewed by special smartphone-like devices developed by Qualcomm. The content was not streamed over large numbers of one-to-one connections, but broadcast to devices which do not even need a SIM to receive it, eliminating network congestion and allowing broadcasters to retain the transmission rights.
What We Think
The chance to broadcast live low latency content without overloading the regular 5G networks is pretty compelling. Live sports events are a great opportunity to exploit the technology. (BR)
