What They Say
Ming-Chi Kuo, a supply chain analyst with a history of good leaks on product developments, has posted that Sony will start mass production of its PS VR2 headset in the second half of this year, with a target of making 1.5 million units for a launch in early 2023. That is contingent on enough good games being available at that time. He believes that there will be 20+ games available at launch.
The headset is expected to have four 720P IR cameras and two eye-tracking cameras and will be made by Goertek. It will have a Mediatek processor and DSCC has previously reported that it will have dual 2000 x 2040 OLED displays from Samsung Display. Kuo confirmed SDC as the supplier.
What We Think
The PS5 console continues to be in short supply. I looked around a couple of sites in the UK and the only ones I saw available were in relatively high priced ‘bundles’. Given that Sony can currently sell all it can make, it would make sense to wait until the full experience is ready. (BR)
