Economist Looks at XR

What They Say

The Economist published an article on XR and the Metaverse. The author tried Snap’s latest ‘Specs’ and he said:

“The downside of their slender styling is a battery life of 30 minutes and a tendency to overheat. Limits in optical technology restrict the field of view to a square in the middle of the lens, meaning that overlaid graphics are seen as if through a letterbox”.

As you would expect in the Economist, it looks at the big picture of why the big Tech companies are interested.

What We Think

I’m not sure I learned much from this article, but it does a good analysis of the reasons that most analysts think that VR is the nearer opportunity, while AR is the longer term and bigger one. It includes some forecasts from IDC and Omdia. (BR)
