What They Say
Bloomberg reported that the planned XR headset being developed by Apple may be pushed back by ‘at least a few months’. It was expected to be unveiled at the annual Developer Conference in June, with release towards the end of the year, but now, the news service said, the shipments might not be until 2023, with a reveal towards the end of this year. It said that Apple had given this information to supply chain partners, but still wanted some units at the end of 2022.
The issues that need to be solved are said to be thermal. There is a lot of processing in the headset which is expected to have two processors, one of which will be like the M1 Pro. An original plan had put the processors into a separate unit, but a change was made to combine into a single unit.
The report said that partners had been told to plan on sales of 7 million to 10 million in the first year, with one unit being sold each day from each Apple store.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also been speculating on the name that the company will use and his favourite is ‘Apple Vision’.
What We Think
The name Apple VIsion reminds me of the Apple-Vision demo for the hi-res graphics on the Apple ][. My grown up children still remember how exciting the demo was, even though it looks very crude now! (BR)
