Sigmaintell sees Price Declines Continuing but slowing

What They Say

Sigmaintell Research sent us its data on panel price changes in November and its December forecast. The firm expects all ‘large area’ LCD applications – TV, monitors and TN notebook panels to continue to decline in price as shown in the table. The firm said that brands are being very conservative in their purchasing and confidence in final device markets is weak around the world. The firm said that oversupply in 55″ could lead to a $10 decline , although that is less than the $12 in November.

In the monitor market, growth of sales in the Chinese Double 11 event were just 6% YoY, a relatively low level of growth. There is a continued shift in monitors from TN to IPS and VA.

In notebooks, there is continued growth in gaming and business devices. There has been some recovery in DDIC supply which is allowing lower end sets to grow. IPS panels for notebooks have seen very low price increases of $0.1 to $0.2.

What We Think

A slowing in the rate of price decline is inline with the views of other analysts. (BR)
