Nreal ready-to-wear AR glasses prepare for US debut

What They Say

Nreal is starting to sell its Nreal Light AR glasses in 20 Verizon stores in the US from the end of November (online from 2nd December) after starting sales in Korea in August. IT will run on iOS and Android and will sell for $600 and there will be bundles with several lines from Samsung’s portfolio of 5G Galaxy phones or the OnePlus 8 5G UW.

Toms Hardware looked at the headset and calls it ‘a valiant effort’. It liked the easy set-up and excellent build quality. The site didn’t like the bulk and weight and the restricted range of compatible smartphones. It also found some eyestrain after continued use and said that apps didn’t seem particularly compelling and ‘more like a glorified tech demo’.

What We Think

The limited compatibility with smartphones is one of the key disadvantages of using external processors rather than going for a self-contained solution like the Quest 2. I would have liked to hear a bit more detail and analysis on the eyestrain issues that Toms Hardware found. (BR)
