The 8K Association reports that Blackmagic Design (BMD) has reduced the price of its 12K resolution camera from $10K to $6K. Further, the firm’s Davinci Resolve software has had a 3X speed improvement for 4K and 8K on Apple Mac models with the M1 chip.
What We Think
The article is worth a look if you are interested in the sensor details, but we have reported it as for any display system, you need content, delivery and display. More accessible cameras are key to the ability to create higher specification content. My biggest question over the importance of the announcement is the question of lens quality. Even 4K has tested the quality of some lenses. All those pixels (80 megapixels) are nice, but not if they are fuzzy! (BR)
