What They Say
TCL has three new 85″ TVs in what it is calling its XL Collection. They are all based on the Roku TV platform. The three versions are:
- an UltraHD HDR set based on LCD. the 85S435 which is selling for $1,600, a low price for the size.
- A step-up version using FALD (192 zones) QLED technology and will cost $3,000. Features include Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision. There are four HDMI2.1 ports and VRR is supported as well as auto-low latency mode (ALLM), and 4K gaming at 120Hz. There is support for a THX Certified Game Mode
- An OD Zero miniLED HDR 8K TV, but with no details yet released.
The better models will be available during this year, while the 85S435 which is already being sold.
What We Think
I couldn’t see anything dramatic in the announcement. TCL emphasised the idea of a ‘theatre-like experience in the home’. TCL continues to boost its brand especially in the US where good value very large sets are particularly appreciated. (BR)
