What They Say
VividQ, who we reported on from AWE Europe a couple of years ago, has issued a white paper to talk about what it sees as the future of AR wearables with support for holography.
What We Think
VividQ is one of the few companies that breaks Alfred Poor’s rule of holography that “Any display described as holographic never is”. The firm is working on SLMs to great holographic images using LCOS technology. The white paper is a good summary of the challenges faced in developing the kind of display that will really change things forever. Given that I wrote a paper on holography fifty years ago, when I was a technical apprentice, I’m not expecting these issues to be addressed very rapidly and the paper doesn’t set out a timetable to get to real products. Still, it’s a good piece of work. (BR)
