What They Say
Canalys put out its Q4 numbers a couple of weeks ago and reported that the overall PC market (desktops, notebooks, workstations and tablets) reached 143.7 million units in Q4, up 35%, bringing total shipments grew 17% to reach 458.2 million units, the highest volume since 2015. Lenovo was the top brand (tables in the linked article) with shipments of 28.8 million for Q4 and 87.0 million units for 2020. Apple closed the gap with Lenovo and shipped 26.4 million Macs and iPads in Q4, a total of 81.4 million units for the full year.
Chromebooks and tablets both had record quarters as shown in the chart below.
What We Think
Apologies, I mis-filed this article which is why it was delayed. The long term chart is a useful one in understanding the market development of the different devices and so is the one that shows clearly the good Q4 for tablets and Chromebooks. There are half a dozen useful tables of data for PCs, Chromebooks and tablets by brand for the quarter and the year in the linked article. (BR)
