What They Say
LG Display has announced that it will show its transparent OLEDs in its CES 2021 online showcase. Applications will include the home, in a restaurant (image below) and in a subway system as a virtual window. The company said that it has now achieved 40% transparency.
What We Think
I still haven’t seen any issues of burn-in on my OLED TV (although I’m careful not to leave images static on the set), but I am still nervous about the use of OLEDs for anything other than ‘pure video’ displays. However, there are lots of applications for transparent displays. Samsung seeded the market, then withdrew and that may help LG get its volume to increase more quickly than it might have otherwise. We are already in contact with LG to get our virtual tour of its CES 2021 showroom. (BR)
