What They Say
There has been a movement away from assembling notebook PCs in China and the MIC now forecasts that Vietnam & Thailand will overtake China. 90% of the market of 160 million sets are made in China, with most under the control of Taiwanese companies. MIC forecasts a drop to 40% in 2030. Wistron will go to Vietnam for PCs for US brands, and Compal is considering the same, while Quanta is expected to go to Thailand. HonHai may go to Vietnam.
What We Think
The move in production is partly because of US sanctions, but also because of rising costs in China. (BR)
