A Swedish watch manufacturer has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of what it describes as “a new breed of analogue smartwatches that adapt to your lifestyle by streaming meaningful data live to your wrist”. The device was fully funded within 24 hours of the campaign’s launch. At the time of writing, backers have pledged over 295,000 krona (about $33,000), with another 17 days to go before the campaign’s end.
The watch pairs with a smartphone app and, while it looks like any other classic circular watch at first glance, real-time augmented reality data can be displayed on top of the watch face, including stocks, weather and a social media follower count. Backers are able to purchase the device for $595, approximately 50% off its tentative retail price of $995 to $1,195. Deliveries are currently scheduled for December 2018.
