Goertek has announced its third-generation VR reference design in partnership with Qualcomm and based on its Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. Goertek says the new platform will focus on ergonomics, thermal management, and system integration. Using the the Qualcomm Adreno 630 visual processing subsystem, this latest design claims 30% faster graphics performance and 2.5x increased display throughout while using 30% less power.
The company also claims the new platform will introduce features previously unavailable to the standalone VR category, including foveated rendering along with eye tracking, allowing for graphics processing to increase in the areas where the user’s vision is focused, while 6DoF inside-out tracking frees the user to explore the full VR environment, free of wires that threaten to break immersion.

As far as we know, this is the same as the Qualcomm reference platform that we saw at MWC. The platform includes gaze tracking to tenable foveated rendering. (Qualcomm Boosting Wireless and Shows VR Platform) (BR)
