The Taiwan Automotive Research Consortium (TARC) has developed a full-colour HUD that can show an image from a connected device such as a smartphone. The project is a development effort and no decision has yet been made to commercialise the display, according to the Nikkei. One of the issues is that the display may actually provide too much information to the driver.
Few details were released, but the technology is based on scanning lasers with a combiner. The image is focused 2 metres from the driver and is equivalent to a 26″ display with 1024 x 600 resolution.
