Chunghwa Picture Tube of Taiwan has told local Taiwan sources that there is a strong move to 18:9 displays among Chinese mobile phone brands and the company will start shipping at the end of Q3. The result of the increase in area of these panels is that it will tighten the supply side, even for amorphous silicon as well as LTPS. The premium for the format, described as 10% to 20%, will also help revenues for panel makers.
The firm told a local news source that it will start shipping automotive panels to Germany at the end of the year – it has previously been shipping to China, Japan and the US. The company wants to expand the share of its automotive business from a third to two thirds.
