After telling us at CES that it was not planning to go ahead with the UP3017Q 30″ UltraHD monitor, Dell has started listing it on its website at the significantly reduced price of $3,499, down from $4,999, the originally announced pricing. Colour gamut is quoted at 100% of AdobeRGB and 97.5% of DCI-P3.
Shipping is quoted as 1-2 weeks in the US and is not yet listed in Europe.
Analyst Comment
We heard that one of the issues of the OLEDs is that, as Sony found with its broadcast OLED monitors, especially the first generation, if you use a cavity to improve the purity of the colours, this tends to cause problems when viewing off access. If you are spending this much on a monitor, viewing or colour issues are unlikely to be acceptable. We’ll follow up with Dell to see if there have been developments. I must say, the contrast of the unit shown in 2016 at CES was fantastic – this is likely to be a highly desired monitor for some creatives. (BR)
