Sharp Plans Fourfold Growth in LCD TVs

sharp

Sharp plans to increase its LCD TV sales by four times over the next four years, according to Japanese sources as reported by Digitimes. In the company’s current financial year (April 2016 to March 2017) it is estimated that 5 million units will be sold. Sharp aims to sell 8 million the following year, 10 million the year after and 20 million two years after that (April 2020 to March 2021). Most of the production will take place at Foxconn in Slovakia, Poland and China, but further factories are planned for Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Large TVs will still be made in Japan, but smaller ones will be manufactured in China and SE Asia. The Japanese plant will then be used to develop 8K TVs and produce smaller panels for smartphones, etc.
