YouTube Supports HDR

YouTube has said that it will support HDR content. Although this was informally said at CES, the service said in its blog that it would support videos graded with applications such as BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve 12.5.2, which can provide the appropriate metadata, although YouTube also said that it will support content which has been graded in Rec. 2020 colour space and using PQ or HLG. The YouTube service will automatically create an SDR downconversion if HDR is uploaded. YouTube has a tool for creating HDR metadata.

Resolutions from 720p to 2160p are supported, along with 24 to 60 fps with Rec. 2020 or Rec. 709 colour primaries. Content should be encoded in H.264 format, and with bitrates from 6.5Mbps to 85Mbps.
