At IFA, Bitkom presented its “Consumer Technology 2016” study, audited by Deloitte. The study said that many consumers were just discovering virtual reality (VR) and that VR would be the “next big thing”. 59% of Germans over 14 years old know about VR and 9% have tried VR glasses, with areas of interest given as gaming, concerts, films and sporting events.
2016 is expected to see sales of €158 million in Germany (€129 million for hardware and €29 million for visual content). But by 2020 this figure is expected to rise to over €1 billion.
