Premium Smartphone Segment Holds Strong in New Zealand and Australia Despite Market Contraction

The smartphone markets in New Zealand and Australia witnessed a noticeable dip in the first quarter of 2023, according to data from IDC. The repor?ts indicate a year-on-year decrease of 4.2% and 7.6% in the markets of New Zealand and Australia, respectively. The decline is largely attributed to economic uncertainties, high inflation, and rising interest rates.

Despite the overall drop, the premium device segment, characterized by smartphones priced over $1000, showed resilience in both markets. Popular models contributing to the high average selling price (ASP) in this category included the Apple iPhone 14 series, Samsung Galaxy S23 series, and Oppo Find N2 Flip.
