Hitachi was one of two companies (Optoma is the other) publicly demonstrating prototypes of LED projectors using the new HLD (High Lumen Density) light source from Philips Lighting. Hitachi’s prototype was reported to offer 3500 ANSI lumens – significantly higher than any other all-LED based projectors on the market today.
The company says the unit won’t be ready until April 2016 and it is being branded as having a “crystal based engine. It is a DLP-based projector with a WUXGA panel and a contrast of 20,000:1. The image shows the chart the company was showing at Infocomm along with the packaged projector prototype.
Philips Lighting told us they chose two development partners starting two years ago to work on HLD and Infocomm was the grand unveiling of the technology.
In addition, Hitachi also announced their first laser-phosphor projector. This will be a WUXGA resolution model with 7500 lumens. It is based on their 9000 series chassis and is scheduled for delivery in March 2016.
