What They Say
The 8K Association has broken silence on a topic that was the subject of a number of discussions at IFA, and that is the EU’s energy regulations from March 2023 onward. The regulations do not make any allowance for more power consumption at 8K and the 8KA said that no sets currently on the market would meet the regulations.
The Association is calling for affected companies to lobby regulators who should be conducting a review of the regulations this year according to the regulation itself. However, the Commission does not appear to be planning such a review.
What We Think
I heard at IFA that some companies may be planning to ship sets with a very low brightness setting. In that case, they might be able to meet the regulation, but that is not a great work-around. I’m planning a Display Daily on this topic in the next few days. (BR)
