3M Teams with Pegatron to Advance Virtual Reality Headset Design

What They Say

3M & Pegatron announced that they are working together to develop a new VR reference design based on 3M’s reflective polariser-based ‘folded optics’ lens. The lens is said to allow smaller headsets with variable focus, eliminating the need for wearing glasses.

The reference design is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform with Wi-Fi 6 for wireless VR. Four cameras handle mixed reality experience and head tracking and the field of view is 95°. It will be available later this year, although the lenses will be available earlier.

What We Think

I’m planning a deeper dive into this technology for a Display Daily next week. (BR)
