What They Say
Drinks brand, Diageo, has worked with Mouse 3D Digital to create a ‘holographic’ display to promote Johnnie Walker whisky in Canada. The launch was at a store in Toronto and uses hardware from Portl Inc. The cabinet has an UltraHD touch display and integrates a camera and can be used for live or pre-recorded content.
What We Think
Of course, this one meets the rule that ‘no display described as holographic, never is’. This display seems to be a transparent LCD but with content carefully created. Looking at the images and creation stills suggest to me that the depth effect is by careful use of shadows and lighting.
Then I found a nice short piece that I missed from the BBC last year that confirms that it’s an LCD with clever shadowing. (BR)
