ZTE Cancels Smartphone Crowd-Funding Campaign

zteZTE has cancelled the crowd-funding campaign for a smartphone design that was to be based on ideas submitted by the public.

In order to go into production, the Chinese phone manufacturer needed $500,000 in crowd-funding, but only received $36,000 in pledges from 190 backers.

The phone design of the so-called “Project CSX” would have been a hands-free device and would let users interact with the phone via voice control and eye-tracking. The movement of the eyes alone was to scroll the pages on the display. It is possible that the lack of funding may be due to the scepticism of some potential backers as to whether this could be achieved. The new phone was also to be equipped with a special self-adhesive case allowing it to be stuck to walls and other vertical surfaces.

The design would have included a full HD display with a dual lens camera on the rear and an eight megapixel camera on the front. Also, there was to be three gigabytes of RAM and a dual SIM card slot with one of the slots also being able to be used for a MicroSD card.
