Xiaomi’s next ‘halo’ product will be unveiled on the 15th January, it is thought. The Chinese company has sent out invitations to an event in Beijing, where it says it will launch a new flagship.
There are two possibilities: the Mi 5 smartphone, or the MiPad 2 tablet. Whichever it is will be thin, according to a blog post that the company released earlier this month which said that the device would be ‘as thin as [a] cicada’s wings’. That’s probably an exaggeration, but it’s worth noting that images leaked last year showed a very thin profile for the Mi 5 – about 5.1mm.
Other specifications linked with the Mi 5 include a 5.2″ or 5.7″ display, 2560 x 1440 resolution and 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor. Taiwanese sources also claim that the smartphone will sport a sapphire protective covering.
The MiPad 2, meanwhile, is said to have a 7.9″ display, 2048 x 1536 resolution, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and will run Android 4.4.
