Xiaomi Spends on IP before IPO

Xiaomi

Xiaomi has confirmed that it is planning an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock exchange later this year. The IPO could be the largest for several years. One of the key issues over recent years for the company has been the correct licensing of IP (it was said in the past that the company limited the geographical spread of its smartphone business because of concerns about ip.) The company has increased its R&D spending from $236 million in 2015, $330 million in 2016 to 502 million in 2017.

The company disclosed in its prospectus that it has deals with Qualcomm, for 3G and 4G both inside and outside China, Microsoft, Via Licensing and Nokia.
