Xiaomi Sets Its Sights on US Smartphone Market

Xiaomi chairman Lei Jun is reported to have stated that the company intends to enter the US smartphone market as early as this year, with plans to raise an initial public offering of at least $10 million. The company already sells a proportion of its other electronic devices in the region, such as cameras, speakers and its Mi Box Ultra HD Android TV STB.

Analyst Comment

It was widely whispered that, in the past, Xiaomi didn’t enter the US market because it didn’t then have to worry about some ip issues related to its smartphones. To directly sell in the US, you need to ensure that ip issues are resolved, so we assume that the time has now come that this is the case. (BR)
