Xiaomi’s TV is Sub-6mm

Just before Easter, Xiaomi unveiled a premium new TV for the Chinese market, using a curved LCD panel from Samsung. The whole set is 5.9mm – only twice as thick as LG’s G6 OLED TV.

Known as the Mi TV 3S, the thinness has been achieved by installing most of the components into an external sound bar; a design that several tier one makers have adopted this year. The ‘Mi TV Bar’ features a 1.4GHz MStar processor with 2GB of RAM; 8GB of storage; and wireless connectivity such as Bluetooth and WiFi.

The Mi TV 3S can decode UltraHD at 60fps. It appears to use a VA panel, with a 4,000:1 contrast ratio and 78% NTSC gamut coverage.

A 43″ version was announced at the same time, with similar specs but 1GB of RAM, 1920 x 1080 resolution and a flat screen.

Xiaomi is selling the Mi TV 3S now, for CNY9,000 ($1,380) (65″) and $275 (43″). So far, no international launch plans have been shared.
